Complete User Guide

Everything you need to know about managing your TAPUS! NFC devices.
Your comprehensive reference for all features and capabilities.

Account Management

Logging In

Access your account through the Login page.

Login Credentials

  • Your registered email
  • Account password (not device PIN)

Session Info

  • Active for 2 hours of inactivity
  • Auto-refresh every 30 minutes

Failed Login Protection

  • • Maximum 5 login attempts per 30 minutes
  • • Account temporarily locks after threshold
  • • Remaining attempts displayed on failed login
  • • Security log maintained for all attempts

Email Verification

New accounts must confirm a one-time code we email you. Registering while claiming a device also requires this before the claim finishes.

  • • Codes expire, so request a new one if it has been sitting a while
  • • Check your spam folder if it has not arrived

Password & Email Recovery

Forgot your password

Use Forgot Password. We email you a code to reset it yourself — no need to contact support.

Changing your email

Change it from your Profile. We confirm the new address with a code before the switch takes effect.

Email Notifications

Under Profile → Email notifications you can choose which order emails you receive.

  • • Order confirmation emails
  • • Order status update emails
  • Claim code emails always send, even when the others are switched off

Purchase History

Your purchase history follows the email used on the order and the person who first claimed the device. Passing a device to someone else does not move your buying history to them.

Profile & Integrations

Your Profile page shows account details, your public TAPUS page, and the Google Drive integration panel. Connect Drive here if you want a memory gallery album or a TAPUS! Medical Card.

Google Drive Products

Some TAPUS! products can store your media in your Google Drive instead of pointing at a link. When someone taps the device, they view your synced photo and video album. Google Drive is also required for the TAPUS! Medical Card.

Which products use Google Drive?

Look for Coming Soon or For Sale items on the shop that describe album or memory features, or check your dashboard — Drive devices show a DRIVE ACCESS badge on the edit page. Standard URL-based tags and cards do not require Drive.

Connecting Google Drive

  1. Sign in to your TAPUS! account and open Profile.
  2. Expand Integrations → Google Drive and click Connect Google Drive.
  3. Complete Google's consent screen. TAPUS requests drive.file scope only — we create and manage files inside TAPUS! Media Folder (Do Not Touch), not your entire Drive.
  4. After success, use Open Media Folder in Drive on Profile to verify the folder was created.

Managing your memory gallery album

Upload & sync

  • • Upload from the device edit page (click or drag files)
  • • Each device gets its own subfolder under your TAPUS media folder
  • • If you change files in Drive directly, use Sync Now on the edit page
  • • Files count against your Google storage quota

Display options

  • Grid Gallery, Storybook, or Collage view styles
  • • Custom theme/background color
  • • Reordering, deleting, syncing, and restyling do not consume edit limits
  • • Switching between link mode and gallery mode does use an edit
  • • Enable PIN Protection for private albums (see Privacy section)

Albums on a passed-along device

If you receive a device with an album, you choose to keep it as read-only or start fresh with your own Drive. A kept album still lives in the previous owner's Drive, so it disappears if they disconnect. Start fresh whenever you want full control.

Storage & folder rules

  • • Do not rename or delete the TAPUS media folder in Google Drive — doing so breaks your coin.
  • • If uploads fail, check free space on your Google account (typically 15 GB on free plans).
  • • Use Reconnect on Profile if Google revoked access or you switched accounts.

For a step-by-step first-time walkthrough, see the memory gallery section in the Master Setup Guide. Data handling is described in our Privacy Policy.

Device Dashboard

Your dashboard is your central hub for managing all TAPUS! devices linked to your account.

Dashboard Features

Device Grid

Visual cards for each device with status indicators

Device Info

Product, color, package, and edit limits displayed

Quick Actions

Edit, QR, privacy, and lost mode toggles

Device Status Badges

ACTIVE Device is working normally and redirecting to target URL
LOCKED Velocity limit reached (100 taps/30sec) - temporary cooldown
LOST Lost mode activated - shows custom message instead of redirect
DEACTIVATED Device disabled - will not respond to taps (admin action)

Editing Devices

How to Update Your Device

URL-based devices follow the steps below. Google Drive products open an album editor (upload, sync, view style) instead of a target URL field.

  1. 1 Navigate to Dashboard
  2. 2 Find the device you want to edit
  3. 3 Click the "Edit Device" button
  4. 4 Check your remaining edit limits displayed at the top
  5. 5 Enter your new target URL (must include https://)
  6. 6 Click "Update Device" to save changes

What You Can Edit

Editable (Uses Edit Count)

  • ✓ Target URL / Redirect destination

Each URL change consumes one edit from your limit

Free Actions (No Limit)

  • ✓ Privacy mode toggle
  • ✓ Mark as lost / found
  • ✓ Generate QR codes
  • ✓ View device information
  • ✓ Album uploads, sync, reordering, and styling

These actions don't consume edit limits

Understanding Edit Limits

Why Edit Limits?

Edit limits prevent abuse and ensure fair usage. Each device configuration comes with specific weekly and lifetime limits based on your product tier.

Dual Limit System

Weekly Limit

Maximum edits allowed within any rolling 7-day window

  • • Resets on a rolling basis
  • • Example: Edit on Jan 1 → available again Jan 8
  • • Short-term protection

Lifetime Limit

Total edits allowed for the entire device lifespan

  • • Never resets
  • • Permanent counter
  • • Long-term protection

Configuration Tiers

Tier Weekly Limit Lifetime Limit Best For
Non-editable - 0 Base Package (₱0.00)
One-time 0 1 Tech Plus (₱10.00) - One edit backup
Unlimited 2 50 Tech Premium (₱50.00) - Frequent updates

Enforcement Rules

  • • You must have BOTH weekly AND lifetime edits remaining
  • • If either limit is reached, editing is blocked
  • • Weekly limit will reset after 7 days from last edit
  • • Lifetime limit never resets

Domain Management

TAPUS! maintains a whitelist of approved domains for instant redirects. Non-whitelisted domains require admin approval.

Whitelisted

Instant redirect, no waiting

Examples: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube

Pending

Admin review required (24hrs)

Your custom domains, personal websites

Blocked

URL shorteners, malicious sites

Examples: bit.ly, tinyurl.com, suspicious domains

Requesting Domain Approval

Automatic Submission Process

  1. 1. Enter your non-whitelisted URL in edit device page
  2. 2. Click "Update Device" - approval request is automatically submitted
  3. 3. Admin reviews request (usually within 24 hours)
  4. 4. Check dashboard for approval status
  5. 5. If approved, your device auto-updates to the new URL

Important: Edit Limits & Domain Approval

Submitting a domain request does NOT consume your edit counter immediately. The edit counter is only decremented when the admin approves the request and your device is updated. If rejected, no edit is consumed.

Privacy & Security

PIN Protection

When enabled, anyone tapping your device must enter your 4-8 digit PIN before being redirected to your destination.

How to Enable

  1. 1. Go to Dashboard
  2. 2. Open Edit Device, then Privacy
  3. 3. Toggle "PIN Protection" ON
  4. 4. Test by tapping device

Use Cases

  • • Protect sensitive links
  • • Control access
  • • Private information
  • • Selective sharing

Velocity Locking

Automatic Protection

If your device receives 100 taps within 30 seconds, it automatically locks to prevent abuse or accidental spam.

When Locked
  • • Status changes to "LOCKED"
  • • Shows cooldown message on tap
  • • No redirect occurs
  • • Automatically unlocks after 30s
Why It Helps
  • • Prevents abusive tap attacks
  • • Stops accidental loops
  • • Protects server resources
  • • Ensures fair usage

Device PIN

PIN Requirements

  • • 4-8 digits only (numbers 0-9)
  • • Set during the claim process, and again when you accept a passed-along device
  • • Required for PIN Protection and unlocking
  • • Separate from your account password and your profile PIN

Forgot or want to change your PIN?

You no longer need support for this. Go to Edit Device → Privacy, confirm your account password, and set a new 4-8 digit PIN.

  • • Turning PIN Protection off keeps your PIN saved for later
  • • Changing your PIN or toggling protection signs out anyone who previously unlocked your device

Medical Card exception

If your device is set to a TAPUS! Medical Card, it is intentionally readable without a PIN so it can help in an emergency. Only add details you are comfortable with a stranger reading.

Device Destinations

Open Dashboard → Edit Device → Device destination to choose what happens when someone taps. For full walkthroughs, see the Master Setup Guide.

Your own link

Paste any full address starting with https://. Approved domains open directly; others show a short warning page first.

Ready destinations

Pick a preset such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube, WhatsApp, Telegram, Google Maps, or Spotify, then type your username. We build the link for you and save it as a normal link.

Your TAPUS page

A public profile hosted by TAPUS!, so you do not need your own website.

TAPUS! Medical Card

Emergency medical details stored in your own Google Drive. Requires a photo and your key details before you can select it. Readable without a PIN.

Memory gallery album

Available on Drive-capable products. Upload photos and videos to your own Google Drive and show them as a grid gallery, storybook, or collage. On dual-mode products you can switch between link mode and gallery mode; switching uses an edit, but uploading, reordering, and restyling do not.

Passing Your Device On

You can gift or hand over a device from Edit Device. Send the recipient a code by email, or use the QR option.

What the recipient does

  • • Signs in with exactly the email you invited
  • • Uses a verified TAPUS! account
  • • Accepts the transfer
  • • Sets their own new device PIN

Good to know

  • • Pending transfers can expire, and you can cancel one before it is accepted
  • • Your purchase history stays with you as the original buyer
  • • Medical Card details never transfer — they are cleared on hand over

If the device has an album

The recipient chooses to keep your album as read-only, or start fresh with their own Google Drive. A kept album still depends on the previous owner keeping Drive connected, so start fresh is the safer long-term choice.

Lost Device Feature

Lost Your Device?

If you lose your physical TAPUS! device, you can mark it as lost. Anyone who taps it will see your custom lost message instead of being redirected.

How to Mark as Lost

  1. 1 Login immediately to your dashboard
  2. 2 Find the lost device in your device grid
  3. 3 Click "Mark as Lost" button
  4. 4 Enter custom message (e.g., "Lost! Please contact +639XXXXXXXXX")
  5. 5 Confirm - anyone tapping device now sees your message

When Device is Found

  1. 1 Return to dashboard
  2. 2 Click "Mark as Found"
  3. 3 Enter your device PIN to unlock
  4. 4 Device reactivates and resumes normal operation

QR Codes

Share your TAPUS! device digitally by generating QR codes that others can scan.

Generating QR Codes

  1. 1. Go to Dashboard
  2. 2. Find your device
  3. 3. Click "Generate QR Code"
  4. 4. QR code opens in new page
  5. 5. Save, screenshot, or share the image

QR vs NFC Tap

Best Practices

✅ Do's

  • Test before sharing - Always tap your device after updating to verify it works
  • Use whitelisted domains - Check domain list before editing to avoid approval delays
  • Monitor edit limits - Check your remaining edits before making changes
  • Save your tracking ID - Keep it handy to check order status
  • Remember your PIN - Store it securely but memorably
  • Use full URLs - Always include https:// in your target URL

❌ Don'ts

  • Avoid URL shorteners - bit.ly, tinyurl blocked for security
  • Don't waste edits - Double-check URLs before submitting updates
  • Don't share claim codes - One-time use, keep private until claiming
  • Don't use malicious links - Devices linking to harmful content will be deactivated
  • Don't forget to logout - Especially on shared/public computers
  • Don't skip testing - Always verify your setup works before distributing

Troubleshooting

Device Not Responding to Tap

Possible Causes:

  • NFC not enabled on phone (Android)
  • Phone doesn't support NFC
  • Device physically damaged
  • Phone case blocking NFC signal
  • Device status is "DEACTIVATED"

Solutions:

  • Check phone NFC settings and enable if disabled
  • Try removing phone case and tapping again
  • Try with a different NFC-capable phone
  • Check device status in dashboard
  • Contact support if device appears damaged

Can't Edit Device

Possible Causes:

  • Weekly edit limit reached
  • Lifetime edit limit reached
  • Device configuration is "Non-editable"

Solutions:

  • Check "Edits Remaining" on dashboard
  • Wait for weekly counter to reset (7 days from last edit)
  • Contact support if you need more edits

Domain Request Pending Too Long

Expected Timeline:

  • Typical approval: 24 hours
  • Status shown on dashboard as "Pending"

If Waiting > 48 Hours:

  • Contact support via your order platform
  • Provide your device UUID or tracking ID
  • Mention the domain you're requesting

Forgot Device PIN

Change it yourself:

  • Open Edit Device, then Privacy
  • Confirm your account password (not the old PIN)
  • Set a new 4-8 digit PIN
  • Anyone who previously unlocked the device is signed out

Google Drive / Album Issues

Connection Issue on edit page:

  • Open Profile and reconnect Google Drive
  • Ensure you approved the Google consent screen with the same account

Uploads failing:

  • Check available storage on your Google account
  • Confirm the TAPUS media folder was not moved or deleted

Album out of date:

  • Tap Sync Now after adding or removing files in Drive
  • Save album settings after changing view style or theme

Viewers see "Owner has disconnected their storage":

  • The device owner must reconnect Drive on Profile

Device Shows "LOCKED" Status

Cause:

Velocity protection triggered (100 taps/30 seconds)

Solution:

  • Wait 30 seconds for automatic unlock
  • Device will return to "ACTIVE" status
  • If persists, contact support
